Discussion Topics:
1. Industrial Park Road Expansion - adding sidewalk or bike lane for non-motorized traffic.
Discussion included cost of widening the existing expansion project
(5500' of Ind. Park Road to be widened in near future).
Jim McCammon has been talking to city managers and the cost estimate that was mentioned is
$100,000 for the sidewalk. Other options to be considered are crushed limestone,
with the possibility of overlaying with asphalt at some future time.
2. Infrastruture Sales Tax (2010) - Brought to light the upcoming tax proposal in order
to plan now for funding to be earmarked for a trail system in Harrison.
This will enable pedetrians or cyclists a way to commute throughout Harrison without
mixing with vehicular traffic, whether for recreation or necessity.
Initial plans call for completion of the main artery along Dry Jordan with
connecting spurs to local schools, the Post Office, the Links apartment complex,
FedEx Freight, sports complexes, and downtown. Jim McCammon produced a working
map with plans to have another reproduced with ideas that were raised tonight.
This map, and a formal plan, are to be presented to the City Council at the regular
meeting on June 4, 2007 at 6pm.
Jeff Amerine and Lad Brooks will explain to the Council our proposal.
3. BRC calendar events - In order to serve our members and sponsors,
we are making a push to utilize our member calendar better, plus adding events.
It was mentioned that the calendar is still not as easy for some members to get to.
Jim Kelly will work with Will Hurst to find an alternative that presents the website
user with the calendar on the homepage, if possible. Event ideas were collected and
have been placed on the current calendar. An email will be generated for our members
explaining the change and reiterating the need to keep it active and updated with ride events.
Rides that somehow incorporate our sponsors are a plus. We also need to include
rides for families and begin posting them on local community calendars. Jim Kelly
will post to the Harrison Daily Times community calendar, and look in to the radio stations'
calendars to see if we can be added there as well.
The next meeting date was not yet announced.
